The story

Built by hand,
on top of a mountain.

Shimoda Hills began with a piece of land where the street ends, high above Shimoda, with forest on every side and the bay on the horizon.

It was shaped by a designer, not a developer. Every room, every fabric and every piece of furniture was thought through and made for this place, so the houses feel lived in from the very first night.

The result is a private estate for a few guests at a time: no lobby, no neighbours at your door, only the trees, the light and the quiet.

The experience

Slow days,
above it all.

A stay at Shimoda Hills is measured in light: the first sun over the valley, long afternoons on the terrace, a fire when the evening comes in from the sea.

i.

Breakfast in the clouds

Fresh bread and local cheese from the village bakery, served the way you like it.

ii.

Fire at dusk

An open fire on the terrace as the valley turns blue and the lights come on below.

iii.

The forest garden

Stone paths, old trees and a natural fish pond, made to be wandered.

iv.

White-sand beaches

Shimoda's bays and beaches lie just below the mountain, a short drive away.

v.

Izu hot springs

The peninsula is famous for its onsen. We will guide you to the quiet ones.

vi.

Discreet service

Our team lives a few minutes away: always there when you need them, never in the way.
